I am SO excited that today has finally arrived…the re-launch of the other side of the happygirl brand, happygirlphotography. After 5 years in business, I felt that my site and brand needed a completely new feel to it.
I went back and fourth with so many different ideas, I even completely built my site from start to finish, then scrapped the whole thing two weeks ago and started over.
It just feels like me, who I am, how I see my business, with the biggest influence being my new favorite place on the internet…see if you might be able to guess what that is……

Friday came very quickly this week, I can’t believe it is our very first Photoshop Friday! Thank you so much for all the ideas for upcoming articles, I will definitely be using many of them in the weeks to come. So many of you requested that I keep the tutorials simple, I agree that so many around the web are so detailed, they have 18 steps to create some sort of background or color enhancement that could have been created in just 3 or 4. I will definitely create my tutorials for the beginner or intermediate level photoshop user. Whether you are a blogger, amateur photographer or someone ready to take it to the next level, learning the basics of photoshop (or even Elements) is the very best thing you can do for your images presented on the web.
Today we will start with some basic lightening and brightening When starting out, it is so easy to fall in the the thinking pattern of “the more color the better” if a little blue sky looks good, why don’t I make it aqua blue to look great! Whenever I edit an image, I never, ever, ever use 100% of any color layer…what does that mean, let me show you. Here is an image of a beautiful girl I shot last summer. She looks beautiful, but I just want the eyese to pop a little bit more and add a little bit of color and depth to the background area.

So you have heard the talk, the new “facebook timeline” In a nutshell, it is the story of you. The look and feel is fresh, fun..with a little bit of pinterest thrown in. Every image you have ever posted on facebook or have been tagged in will appear on your page. Now don’t get worried, once you sign up you have 7 days to make it look the way you want (possibly delete that image where your best friend looks fabulous and you had just taken a bite of dinner)
Just click on the image to learn how to create your own timeline
In honor of the New Year and all those resolutions, I decided to put together an inspirational board that includes many of the phrases that keep me going in this crazy world….enjoy!
1. WordPress is easy to navigate. Let’s face it, there would be nothing worse then having a designer build you a beautiful new blog or website and after spending 3 hours on a Saturday, you still can’t figure out how to make a witty blog post. Once a site is built on the WordPress platform, it is one click to get into the backend, one click on new post, write your new post, one click on publish…I think you can handle that.
2. CNN and EBAY use it, so I think it is good enough for me!
3. The amount of plug-ins available are staggering. Every time I think I have found all the essential one’s, I read an article and find 20 more I have never heard of, I think WordPress could do my laundry if I asked it to!
4. WordPress is totally flexible. It can be a blog, it can be a website, you can add an online shopping cart, there is no need to ever change your platform again.
I wish everyone happy blogging in the New Year!

Here is the bottom line… you need to be where your customer’s are… and your customers are on facebook and twitter. Social media allows you connect with a huge number of potential customers without the hard sell…they just find you… and I will say it again and again…….it’s free!
Here are the latest statistics…it’s estimated that every 20 minutes, Facebook members ‘like’ pages 7.6 million times, and research shows that 51% of active Twitter users follow companies, brands or products on social networks…every 20 minutes, and you are not a part of this because…..
Here is how it all come’s together…link your facebook and twitter pages to your website, write fun banter to create attention to your brand, people share your funny banter with their friends, this generates traffic to your website…and there you have it…free advertising!
Have a great week!
